Hey guys; I've never really used this as anything but a writing journal, and really, my life is not that interesting, but I was going to throw this out there because it is big and momentous. I've been so busy lately with everything that I haven't gotten a chance to write on the most excellent topics lately, or post the exhaustive (and seriously, I mean like 1200 word) meta post that I've been looking at/corresponding about.

Mostly, ah, because I'm moving to California. San Francisco, to be exact, to start working at a little startup that does some cloud storage. In three weeks, roughly. Which is a bit of a thing, and as such I am asking you guys for any advice whatsoever you may have on, well, moving long distances, things to bring, things to keep, things to think about.

I am thinking of doing a ten-day cross country road trip before then; there are a few people I'd like to see and a few places I'd like to visit. I intend to do this in an 1998 Honda Accord that is solid as a rock, and I think everything I'm bringing is going to fit in there, which, at this point, is clothes, my computer, and a desk. Everything else, I'll be buying in SF, where I'm looking at a few spots that are comfortably in my budget and stuff.

So um. I'm not sure what I'm really asking for, but anything you guys think would be helpful would...be helpful.

What's the best place to eat? ;)

If you're a fan of clam chowder, Fisherman's Wharf has the best breadbowls anywhere. It's a tourist trap, but the food is amazing. _It's a Grind_ is a chain coffee shop at Washington and Polk, but there are lots of chairs, the coffee's good, the food's good, and it's really a place for local San Franciscans. You won't find tourists there. There are also some great Dim Sum places in Chinatown, but those you'll want to explore on your own. :)

I can make lots more recommendations of places to go in the East Bay, if you want to take the trouble of BARTing over. Berkeley alone is loaded with great spots. :)

DUDE!

Well, in THAT case,

I'd highly recommend Blake's (on Blake and...Telegraph?--south of Cal campus), and any of the restaurants on Euclid just north of North Gate (also Cal campus). There are a bunch of yummy places on Shattuck (just north and west of Cal campus, between Hearst and Rose). There's also Fat Apples on MLK and Rose that's got super-yummirific and carborific comfort food. If you're in a sushi mood, I no of no better place in the whole East Bay than Yammy Sushi--it's a block from my house (highly dangerous) and just a couple blocks from the El Cerrito Plaza BART station. Definitely worth a trip.

Almost forgot: my hubby and I love this Chinese place called Max's Wok in El Cerrito on San Pablo. It's a bit of a hike from either of the El Cerrito BART stations, but it's really inexpensive and super-delicious.

AND I'll leave you alone after this, but the Starry Plough (on Shattuck and Prince, toward the Berkeley/Oakland border) has great burgers and also has numerous beers on tap. It's also two blocks from where I work, so if you're looking for a dinner buddy some evening after 5:00, lemme know!
